T Series Specification

Strainer shall be constructed completely of non-corrodible materials. Body shall be fiberglass construction incorporating a .100” corrosion liner on all interior surfaces and flange faces that are not PVC. Liner shall be constructed of one layer of resin-rich “C” veil, followed by two layers of 1.5 ounce glass mat, impregnated with isophthalic polyester resin.

The inlet and outlet are to be flanged connections. Flange to be drilled to 150# ANSI standard drilling pattern. The lid is to be manufactured of clear acrylic sometimes reinforced with fiberglass frame to allow unobstructed visual inspection of the basket. Lid shall be sealed with an ethylene propylene “O” ring.

Strainer is to be built with an outlet structure to enlarge the opening in the basket chamber. Outlet are of the basket chamber shall be a minimum of four times the area of the inlet pipe. Designs similar to a pipe cross, with the outlet of the basket chamber being a nozzle similar to the inlet, are not acceptable.

Supply a V-wire 316 stainless steel basket with 3/16” square holes and 62% open area. Supply one spare basket for change-out.

Strainer to be T series as manufactured at Mer-Made Filter, Denmark, SC 29042, 803-793-4265.

Option – Reducing strainer

Strainer outlet shall reduce to pump suction size by use of a full concentric reducing section.

In-Line Fiberglass Surge Tank

Surge tanks are normally designed to accept main drain water by gravity flow using a modulating (float operated) valve to hold back main drain flow when gutter water is flowing into the tank.  Many instances occur when the filtering rate for the pool cannot be maintained on gravity flow.  An example would be an increase in pool turnover.  The Mer~Made inline surge tank allows the main drain flow to be improved by using pump suction.  A modulating valve is mounted ahead of a “T” which opens into the tank.  A high tank water level, caused by gutter water flow, throttles main drain water giving preference to the gutter water in the tank.

Water Level Valves

MER-MADE WATER LEVEL VALVES FOR SWIMMING POOL SYSTEMS MODULATING WITH FLOATS – NOT TIGHT CLOSING LEVEL CONTROL WITH PILOT VALVE – TIGHT CLOSING

 

Two types of level valves are used in swimming pool surge tanks or open tank diatomaceous earth filters.  The main determinant as to which valve type to be used is the relative levels of water in the controlled tank versus the swimming pool.

Modulating valves are used in surge tanks or vacuum D.E. filter tanks when the top of the tank is at an elevation above maximum pool water level.  In this type system the water level in the surge/filter tank will rise to the same level as the pool water level when the system is shut down.  The walls of the tank must be slightly higher than pool water level.  If this is not the case a tight closing level control valve must be used.

The difference in operating levels between the pool and surge or filter tank is what creates the pressure difference needed to sustain flow.  This section gives charts to establish what elevation differences are required to sustain a required flow rate and, thus, a given pool turnover.  this data is based on flow loss tests conducted on both types of valves by an independent hydraulic laboratory.

Level Control Valve System

LEVEL CONTROL VALVE SYSTEM

The LEVEL CONTROL VALVE SYSTEM, complete with PILOT VALVE and accessories, will maintain the appropriate tank operating water level. The system is tight closing on shut-off. Items #1-#5 are supplied by MER-MADE FILTER.

 

1. The LEVEL CONTROL VALVE (LCV) AND ACTUATOR is a sprint-to-close type that will open when pressure is applied to the underside of the diaphragm.

2. The BRASS PILOT VALVE acts as a controller.  As the water level in the tank drops, the pilot valve bleeds off less water from the supply line, thereby increasing pressure on the diaphragm, opening the LCV & allowing more water to flow through the influent line into the tank.  The converse of this happens when the water level rises in the tank.

3. The 1/2″ INLINE STRAINER helps to keep small particles out of the system.

4. The 1/2″ BRASS NEEDLE VALVE allows for finer control of valve opening & closing.

5. The 0-60 LB., 2-1/2″ PRESSURE GAUGE provides you with the supply pressure.

SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS:

A modulating type valve shall be installed on the tank inlet line.  The valve shall be spring-closed, pressure-open diaphragm type with the operating pressure being supplied by an external water (optional air) source, minimum 20 psi.  The valve shall be controlled by a pilot float valve installed in the tank.  The system shall come complete with needle valve, inline strainer & pressure gauge.  System to be supplied by MER-MADE FILTER, INC.
